Description

This has been a rainy winter in Arizona. The desert is green these days, and after two years of draught the flowers bloom like madness.

This picture was taken a week ago at South Mountain, Phoenix. The high twilight contrast and the use of circular polarizer (B+W) made it very difficult to get a proper exposure. My idea was minimizing the over-exposed area and then tweak the colours with PS (so far my HDR efforts all come out over-exposed).

I like the result, and hope that you will too. Please check links to large version (with more space from the bottom), desaturated version, and two more images of the tree (different angles). Thanks for watching.

The sky is amazing!!! And the B&W version, fantastic! I liked it a lot. I would like to see it in a bigger version. The Green things look a bit.. well not that sharp, but it can be an effect of the resizing?! Still Great photo!

The large versions look great! This version seems slightly oversaturated but still a lovely image!

Many thanks for the comments.
Gary, I think you were right about saturation. I reduced it a little now. Thanks for drawing my attention. :)

very nice surrealistic looking shot

I still feel the colors are slightly oversaturated;)

Great composition and sky

Really nice colors in this.

The tree isn't working for me in either composition. Probably would be better to not have it.

I think your shadows could be a bit darker to give you better contrast as well.

I like both - the colored and the b&w version. The street through the pic works nice.

Very nice scenary Eyal!

I prefer the black & white version.

Nice how the road just cuts the lower left corner! :)

Good luck in nominations! :)

A beautiful composition Eyal. There are several nice elements here that are well positioned. The sky is fantastic. The 716 version looks a bit oversharp and doesn't show the same quality as does the full version. I voted based on the full version!

it lacks a bit of definition.. the composition is great.. the sky is also great.. and the lines of the clouds work really well..
but for me it could have had a little bit more of light.. to give more life to the green vegetation..

as usual good photo.. and keep them coming..

I like the full version (picasa) very impressive!
The colors there are more realistic i think from the one you posted, and the contrast is less harsh...
Very beautiful shot!

The angle is really great, its giving it a surreal mood, together with those contrasting colors...

Thank you all for the great feedback!

I had a hard time processing this image, probably tried it a dozen times by now. I agree with Michelle that the big version has a better quality, though I hardly sharpened this image, cause it looked worse post than pre-sharpening. I also see anastasia's point about the colours. Putting the two together, I am back to the minimally-processed version. This view speaks for itself as it is.

As always, I appreciate all thoughts and suggestions. Cheers to all! (B) :)

Awesome image with how the clouds are swirling into the setting sun. The GFX version looks a bit washed out. The full version seems to have the correct contrast.

Beautiful landscape, great compo; the sky looks amazing....

Avatar loneorbit

 05/16/08 @724

Quite the setting for a landscape. The lighting and atmosphere made for a strong overall photograph, although the road does lead the eye into the corner. Having the road exit the frame else where may have minimized the eyes movement out of the frame along the road.
The different composition has that same lighting and atmosphere, but it adds the tree in a much stronger role and using it in rather appealing manner. The tree also balances out nicely with the mountain to the right, which makes for a strong composition.

Avatar chrisgraphics

 05/29/08 @424

Nice color range. Yet, there seems to be something with the pic - the edges have a bit of highlight (you can see it clearly around the mountain). I think it's either a bit too much unsharp mask (or high pass) or a high level of jpg compression.
